We left under cloudy skies and drove up through drizzle and rain, heavy near the summit.
But the clouds parted at the Ray Benson parking lot and we skied under partly sunny or overcast
skies till the last half-hour, when it drizzled again.
Took the South Loop route to the lake; lunched at lakeside with a view of Hayrick and Hoodoo.
Chatted with a Parks & Rec. group who were staying at the Lodge.
Took a somewhat different loop back, arriving at the car at 3:30.
This is a nice advanced beginner-intermediate trip with several variations.
As one who skis mostly on the Willamette Pass, I found it to be delightful.
Although clouds cut off the tops of the mountains (Jack, Washington), it’s very scenic.
Snowmobiles were heard but rarely seen.
“Big Lakers” were Mardi Klotz, Marie Mulholland and Ed Lichtenstein (leader).
