Beales ButteFebruary 17, 1990After a slow drive on icy highways from Eugene, it was a joy to find Road No. 5825 plowed to the railroad tracks. We started to break trail to the butte about 11 a.m. After ¼ mile we encountered snowmobile tracks from a loop off another road. This made the going much easier and we decided to follow them at the next road junction instead of going the usual route up the butte. The tracks led us to an open play area at the base of the butte which had good views toward Odell Butte arid Walker Mountain. After lunch we played on the snow slopes and explored a little farther along the snowmobile route. After the 15" of powder snow was packed by snowmobiles, it made a great base for skiing. Three Obsidians and 6 non-members enjoyed the trip: Will Cowdrey, Emmy Dale, Suzanna Didier, Mary Ann Haldane, Darrell Lindsey, Herb McMurtry, Hank Plant, Anna St. Clair, and Wes Prouty (leader). |
