Paulina Lake-Newberry CraterFebruary 11, 1990We had an almost prompt 7 a.m. departure from S.E.H.S., an enjoyable jaunt to Central Oregon including a bathroom stop at Willamette Pass ski area. A fine day, but the usual Newberry powder snow was a bit icy on the trip into the crater. We had good weather, great vistas and a Paulina Falls that was just partially frozen this year. We all enjoyed Paulina Lake Lodge’s hospitality — conversation, warm fire, sinful desserts and coffee, etc.! On the homeward bound trip out of the crater the snow had improved somewhat, so there was a nice 3½-mile run out. Awards for ruggedest skier went to Gladys Grancorvitz, best singing voice Jack Cole, and (with no other even close competition) the contortionist award went to Genie Currier. The mostly tired, happy skiers arriving back in Eugene 6 p.m.(ish) included Dallas and Jack Cole, Genie Currier, Emeline Dale, Bob Dark, Beatrice Fontana, Gladys Grancorvitz, Donna Herrington, Myra Lovett, Royal Murdock, Rebecca Norton, Dave Predeek, Bobbye Sorrels, Chris Steele, Carol Stem, Martha Welches, and Gene Thaxton (leader). |
