Sand Mountain

January 28, 1990

Due to high winds, blowing snow and cold temperatures we changed our quest for the summit of Sand Mountain to a more sensible outing on the north loop of Ray Bensen ski area. We had a nice little trip up to the but where, of course, there were about 15 other skiers standing around the wood stove. We enjoyed our lunch and skied out. Many thanks to Barry for his snow shovels. We had to dig either Carol’s or Barry’s car out of the snow several times! Not many people know it, but Carol Horvath can drive her car over the pass with no view of the road, using only instruments and compass, and never bat an eye or form a bead of sweat on her forehead!! Many an airline pilot would be proud of her. XC skiers were Chris Christensen, Jackie Fern, Barry Greer, Carol Horvath, Sandra Larsen, and Tom Donnelly (leader).
