January 20-21, 1990
Sixteen Obsidians got in their first weekend of skiing with about as perfect conditions as one could hope for. The skies were clear and the snow was good. We all made it to Sunriver in time for Friday night dinner at Ricardo’s Mexican Restaurant after which we all went to one of the two houses we had rented and watched a video movie. We were staying in two very nice homes which would sleep eight people each. Except for Friday, we had all our meals together in the larger home.
Saturday morning was beautiful and we split up for the day. Pat and Joe took it easy hiking, reading, talking to grandchildren, napping, etc. while Jane had to study for a test. Bob, Mary, Corinne and John went downhill skiing at Mt. Bachelor and the rest of the group cross-country skied to Todd Lake, Park Meadows, and other areas near Mt. Bachelor. On Saturday night we had a lasagna dinner with all the trimmings. After dinner we had another video movie and we all got to bed about 11 o’clock after a great day in the sun.
Sunday morning some of the group went to cross-country ski again while others went to the High Desert Museum or just looked over the Sunriver area. We were back home in Eugene by dark.
It was a very good trip except for the movies. Dave missed both of then because he fell asleep on the floor and others were seen missing parts of each one. They were too tame and staid to hold everyone’s attention. Next time I’m going to check with one of the kids at the video store and get some suggestions for some really up-to-date film with lots of action so I can keep this bunch awake! A great time was had by Mary Christoferson, Genie Currier, Bea Fontana, Jane Hackett, Corinne Hunt, John and Janet Jacobsen, Dot Leland, Joe Lowry, Dave Predeek, Bobbye Sorrels, Carol Stern, Suzanne Steussy, Gene Thaxton and Bob and Pat Dark (leaders).
