McKenzie River Trail
November 25, 1990
Two days of beautiful sunshine, one night of torrential downpour.
I drove to South Eugene High thinking two or three would probably brave the elements.
Ha! Fourteen other lunatics agreed “Let’s go for it.”
In another downpour, we left.
We left my rig at Trail Bridge and 15 people plus packs crammed into Bob Dark’s van meant
for 11, giving a whole new meaning to “Close Encounters.”
We started out at the top in falling snow, which became rain, which became ice showers.
We had grey, though dry skies, for lunch at Tamolitch Falls (Pool).
After the grey, we had a smidgen of blue sky, and the trip ended back at Trail Bridge in what I
would call a snow storm!
The day was exciting, the river was spectacular, the scenery beautiful, and the group was great,
My thanks and appreciation to those listed who proved I am not the only screwball in the club.
They are: Ben Elkus, Marty Hathaway, Sylvia Harvey, Anne Montgomery, Becky Hansen, Hans Schock,
Gary Marx, Genie Currier, Emmy Dale, Bob Dark;
and non-members Diana Cantrell, Jim Lindberg, Kerry Bishop, and Tina Schiff.
Sharon Ritchie (leader).
