Eel Creek Dunes

November 10, 1990

The First Annual Lee Hatch Memorial Hike to the ocean via the Eel Creek Sand Dunes was a resounding success. The weather was summer-like, sunny and seventy degrees. On the drive over the fall colors were joyous, the continuous clear-cuts were sad and the elk herd of nearly 50 animals just east of Reedsport were lazily slumbering in the morning sunshine. At the ocean, the large rolling waves provided a melodic accompaniment to lunch in the sun. Bob Foster and Carol Stern enjoyed a cooling after-lunch dip in the ocean. We reminisced about the escapades of our much-missed friend, Lee Hatch, on our earlier hikes at Eel Creek. Fun-in-the-sunners were Diane Cantwell, Kevin Clark, Bob and Pat Dark, Bea Fontana, Teresa Ladd, Bob Foster, Jim Linchberg, Joe Lowry, Glen Meares, Dave Predeek, Tina Schiff, Velma Shirk, Suzanne Steussy, Carol Stem, Gene Thaxton, Hilma Volk, and Jane Hackett (leader).
