Mt. BaileySeptember 30, 1990By request of the trips committee this trip was changed to Sunday, September 30th to help balance the number of trips on that weekend. The sign-up sheet was missing when I stopped to pick it up at the YMCA on Saturday. I had no idea of how many hikers would show up but we had a good turnout. Nine of us left 19th and Patterson at 7:45 a.m., stopped to pick up Lloyd in Winchester, arrived at the trailhead in time to start the hike at 11:15. The elevation gain from trailhead to the 8363-foot summit is 3,083 feet. After a lunch stop, along the trail, we reached the summit about 3 p.m. on a beautiful 80 degree day. After a fast trip down the mountain one car headed for Eugene via Willamette Pass. The rest of us stopped for a cold drink at Diamond Lake resort, then we headed for Eugene via Roseburg and I-5. It was a long day for Dan Bates, Barb Eisen, Ray Mikesell, Lloyd Plaisted, Ardys Ringsdorf, Sharon Ritchie, Hans Schock, Richard Sundt, Hilma Volk and Wes Prouty (leader). |
