Coast Hike

August 19, 1990

We had to do the unusual for August in Oregon propitiate the rain gods for a cessation of their week long activity. As our four vehicles carrying 19 eager hikers approached the coast our pleas were heard. The clouds lifted, the winds died, and the sun shone brightly in the blue sky. We left a shuttle vehicle at Winchester Bay and continued to the Eel Creek Campground trailhead. After a two mile hike over the unmarked sand dunes we enjoyed lunch overlooking the beach and the ocean. A 4-mile hike returned us to the shuttle vehicle as the weather started to close in again. Honorable mention must be given to Mari Baldwin and Carolyn Waters (and others not noticed by the leader) who picked up all of the garbage from this section of beach. The others were Dan Larson, Mary Millman, Paula Vehrs, Gerhard Hoffman, Diana Taylor, Barbara Koser, Dan Bates, Marty Hathaway, Bonnie Manheim, Gary Marx, Martha Welches, Corinne Hunt, Ed Lovegren, Shirley Froyd, Virginia Prouty, and Royal and Marilyn Murdock (leaders).
