As luck would have it, just enough hikers showed up to require a second car.
Fortunately, it was available.
We departed the S.E.H.S. parking lot shortly after 8:30 which put us at the trailhead about 10 a.m.
The change of altitude did little to alleviate the heat but most of the trail was shaded,
and with little climbing and clambering to be done, the hike was sheer pleasure.
We enjoyed lunch sitting beside the Great Spring, taking advantage of the breeze off the cold
Butterflies by the score were also working the water’s edge.
And, while we were sitting there, an osprey soared over head.
It took a great deal of will power to leave that idyllic spot.
Next stop was a small creek where we doffed our shoes and bathed our hot feet.
Then, after the shortest leg of the hike, we were back at the trailhead cafe for refreshments
before starting home.
We also took time for a short stop at Sahalie Falls to break up the return trip.
Clear Lake hikers were: Glenn Aplin, Miki Hutchison, Pam Larson, Gary Marx, Bobbye Sorrels,
Beverly Soule and leader Vernon Barkhurst.
