July 14, 1990
Four intrepid hikers left Eugene at 8 a.m. and met the leader at Highway 20 at the
Crescent Mountain Trail road.
We started out in the relatively cool forest and soon reached the bridge over Maude Creek.
From then on it was up and up through the forest, several small meadows, and then over the
mile-long meadow on the south side.
Many flowers were in bloom.
We were glad to re-enter the forest at the saddle to receive some relief from the hot sun.
Another steep pitch put us on the summit, where views from Mt. Adams to Diamond Peak greeted us.
After lunch and pictures on the unshaded summit, we descended, passing two backpackers who had
tried to reach Crescent Lake via the trail.
We arrived back at the hot cars at 4 p.m.
On Crescent Mountain were Tracy Christensen, Marty Hathaway, Bonnie Manheim, Henrietta Richmond
and Ralph Nafziger (leader).
