Rebel Rock Trail
June 3, 1990
Rebel Rock and Rebel Creek Trails take off from the same trailhead and are joined (thanks to
Obsidian volunteers) in a loop.
Trip leaders had checked out Rebel Creek Trail the previous weekend and found it to be obstructed
by many blown down trees.
Therefore we chose to hike up the Rebel Rock Trail instead.
However, it too, was frequently blocked by down trees.
Our hardy group scrambled over, skirted, or crawled under countless tree trunks on our long climb
up to Olallie viewpoint.
Nature treated us to sunshine, clouds, and a dramatic rain and hail shower as we crossed an open area.
The downed trees were still blocking the trail as we descended and drove to the pie shop for
After soup and coffee and pie and one full dinner, our group felt strong enough to drive home.
The trail passes through lovely old growth forest with rhodies in bloom.
Rebel Rock scramblers were Joe Freedman, Brian Hartley, Marty Hathaway, Corinne Hunt, Sachiko Iwasaki,
Don Orton, Gary Marx, Bonnie Manheim, Ardys Ringsdorf, Mary Vogel, Martha Welches
and leaders Susan Baker and Marcia Danab.
