Kentucky Falls

June 3, 1990

This was a moderate hike of 4 miles r. t. to Upper and Lower Kentucky Falls and North Fork Smith River Falls. The weather was cool, misty and showery, but at noon the sun came from behind the clouds while we lunched at the falls. The group identified 27 plants in flower, including 3 rhododendrons on rotting stumps about 30 feet above ground! About ½ the group walked the short distance to the top of Roman Nose Mountain for a hazy view of the Coast Ranges, both south and west. The group of nine traveled conservatively and comfortably in 2 compact autos. The cars left the S.E.H.S. lot at 8:30 a.m. and returned about 3:45 p.m. The hikers included Elliott Aronin, Mild Hutchison, Theresa Ladd, Marie Loome, Mary Millman, Barbara Schulz, Beverly Soule, Virginia Thille and John Corliss, leader.
