Tahkenitch LakeMarch 10, 1990The group picked up the leader in Cottage Grove and drove through rain and hail to the coast, where to and behold the sun came out. The elk were sitting in the field as we approached Reedsport and were there upon our return also. We hiked the forest trail to Threemile Lake overlook noticing a few blowdowns across the trail. We enjoyed lunch hunkered below wind level, donned rain gear for a short shower and crossed the dunes to the beach. Oh yes, in the forest the skunk cabbage was beginning to bloom, and a few mushrooms lined our way. Newts were scurrying across the trail. Along the coast we got one dousing of hail as we neared the upper dunes on the trail coming back. After we were on our way home again the sky lowered its cargo to the ground again, but during the hike we enjoyed some sun, about three drops of water and a short hail shower, so those who cancelled missed a good day. Those that had fun were: Cathy Scissors-Collins, Ben Elkus, Charles and Sandy Reul and leader Shirley Froyd. |
