Santiam PassMarch 19, 1989The low turnout for this trip might have been due, in part at least, to the RG. They switched their regular listings of Obsidian Outdoor Trips from the Sunday Oregon Life Section to the Tuesday Sports Section with no advance notice. But — whatever, all who might have come (but didn’t) missed a wonderful day of spring skiing at its very best. It was a day for dark glasses and lots of sun block. It was a day where hiking shorts would not have been inappropriate. And to top it all, the five inches of new snow was remarkably dry. A ten mile loop took us to the Brandenburg Shelter for lunch. Then en route to the North Blowout Shelter for a short mid-afternoon tea break. We also passed Island Junction Shelter. Enjoying the day of but hopping, as well as the intermediate skill level challenges of the North Loop Trail (et al) were: Dave Predeek, Ruth Wisner and their indomitable leader Bob Devine. |
