Mt. Washington (Northwest Bowl)February 11, 1989Time — 1 p. m. Trip participant to leader, “Where is the Northwest Bowl of Mt. Washington?” Leader, “Some place up there.” Participant, “Where is the trail?” Leader, “Some place back there.” Participant, “Where are we?” Leader, “LOST, for the second time! Gee, this is the first Obsidian trip I’ve ever lead; maybe next time I ought to buy a map and compass!” We made it about 2/3 of the way to the Bowl of Mt. Washington. Heavy snow pack helped make following the Pacific Crest Trail difficult. Good group of people, good snow, and good weather. As Norm Benton pointed out, “It’s the journey, not the destination.” And in the words of Douglas MacArthur, “I shall return” or “Wait until next year.” Participants were Norm Benton, Lyn Cole, Tim Cook, Tom Donnelly, Dick Hildreth, and Bill Bankston (leader). |
