Tahkenitch Loop

October 29, 1989

This hike was scheduled for Waldo Mountain but because of the snowfall from the day before, driving to the trailhead was impossible so the destination became the Tahkenitch Loop at the coast. It was a lovely day with little wind so was a delightful day to walk. The trail starts at the Tahkenitch Campground and follows past Elbow Lake through an interesting transitional forest to an overlook close to Threemile Lake. Hikers walked to the northern end of Threemile Lake and then turned west through the dunes to the beach. After a comfortable lunch in windless weather, the group walked north to the connecting trail back through the dunes to forest and back to the campground. It is a super hike with a lot of variety. Hikers included: Barbara Chinn, Kevin Clark, Genie Currier, Bob Foster, Jean Gillett, Marty Hathaway, Dean Scovill, Betty Staeck, Suzanne Steussy and leaders Maxine Hall and Mary Ellen West.
