Mt. Rainier

September 15-17, 1989

We arrived at the trailhead at Frying Pan Creek late Friday afternoon. As we hiked along the darkness came upon us; that big flashlight in the sky showed us the way! On Saturday morning we left on our day hike over Panhandle Gap to Indian Bar. There was not much snow left this year. As a storm was expected late Saturday afternoon or evening, we kept the pace up. Lots of mountain goats along the way. As usual, this area of Mount Rainier is very beautiful. After a quick break, we headed back towards Summerland as the sky was spitting out some snow and rain. It is nice to have stormy backpacks sometimes in order to catch up on reading and sleep! Sunday morning after breakfast in the snow showers, we hiked down to lower elevations and rain. A very enjoyable trip for leaders Jan and Rich Anselmo and fellow hiker Eric Schermahoff.
