Nash Lake

September 1-4, 1989

This group met at Rax restaurant at 42nd Street in Springfield and traveled to Devils Lake on the Cascade Lakes Highway and set up camp in the dark. One car was dropped off at the Roney Creek Trailhead on the west side of the wilderness area.

On Saturday morning this Obsidian group made its way into the Three Sisters Wilderness area traveling westward to Sisters Mirror Lake where a second camp was made. The majority of the group made its way up the “Wife” (elev. 7054) in the afternoon. Evening was pleasant as our group had the opportunity to be close to a pack string of llamas and learn something about these curious animals.

The following morning the group split with two heading cross-country westward and the others heading out down the trail to Nash Lake. From Nash Lake Barry and Rebecca hiked to the summit of Burnt Top (elev. 6323). Ken and Lee spent several hours that day on the ridge between Sisters Mirror Lake and Burnt Top looking for “Found Lake.” Well, yes this awesome isolated sizeable lake was a true find and well worth the effort. The entire group was assembled for camp that evening at Nash Lake.

On Monday (Labor Day), the group once again split up. Half hiked westward 11 miles to the car at Roney Creek and the other half hiked back over the Cascade summit returning to Devils Lake. This was a very pleasurable trip offering some very interesting side trips for Amy Ball, Barry Greer, Rebecca Hansen, Kathy Perkins, Lee Stubbs and Ken Ball (leader).
