August 19, 1989
We left Eugene at 6:90 a.m. on a cloudy Saturday, drove up Highway 58 to the Cascade Lakes Highway
just east of the 58 Cafe, and on to Soda Creek Trailhead across from Sparks Lake.
We started hiking at 9:30 a.m. After a while it was warm and sunny.
Our hike was very leisurely.
We stopped on Soda Creek where the trail crosses it and had lunch among the pink monkey flowers,
then on to Green Lakes where we found two elephant’s head flowers, and hikers soaked their feet
in the cold water.
After that we turned back onto the Fall Creek Trail and hiked along a portion of Rock Mesa, then
down by the beautiful falls and back to the cars at 5 p.m.
Enjoying the day were members Glenn Aplin and Marty Hathaway,
non-members Steven Glenday from Australia, Martha Mitchell, Eleanor Wilkerson
and co-leaders Henrietta Richmond and Ardys Ringsdorf.
