Cone Peak/Iron MountainJune 17, 1989The day started overcast but cleared up at 1 p.m. when we were on top of Iron Mountain. Most hikers expressed how invigorating the day was and how refreshing the air. J. Forell acted as our recording secretary, and recorded these facts: Wild Flowers Observed — Bastard Toad Flax, Indian Paint Brush, Larkspur, Cats Ear, Blue-eyed Mary, Phacelia, Forget-me-nots, Jacobs Ladder, Canada Dogwood, Wild Cherry, Wild Ginqer, Full Fruited Parsley, Anemone, Queen Cups, Trillium and Wild Strawberry. Also the fact is there are fourteen (14) switch-backs from the start of the Cone Peak Trail to the top of Iron Mountain. Iron Mountaineers were Easy Dale, Leona Devine, Marilyn Dungey, J. Forell, Ardys Ringsdorf, Carolyn Kompanik, Mary Millman, Philip Postel, Henrietta Richmond, Sally Still, Betty Jean Wylie and Ted Briles (leader). |
