Brandenberg Shelter

January 2, 1988

It was very cold at Hoodoo Saturday. We started in the sun, traveling along the North Loop Trail to the Pacific Crest Trail intersection, then south to the “burn.” By this time a heavy fog had moved in — so no great view. The PCT through the “burn” is poorly marked, but if you head south you will intersect with the South Loop Trail. Following this trail to the east, you intersect with the Two Buttes Cutoff Trail and turn south. The only reference to Brandenberg Shelter is found along this trail. We followed the markers to the Shelter, situated on a bald knob. It has good views (if it is clear) and is a great play area. We had wind and fog, but we did have a fire provided by John Hudson and Carol Horvath who were ahead of the main group. During our return to the cars the fog lifted and we did get a great view of Jack and glimpses of Washington. “Brandenbergers” were Bea Fontana, Gladys Grancorvitz, Carol Horvath, John Hudson, Diane Jeffcott, Betty Macy, Royal Murdock, Dave Predeek, Carol Stern, Bobbie Sorrels, Suzanne Steussy, Gene Thaxton, and Jane Hackett (leader).
