Carl Lake

September 25, 1988

The sky was overcast as our group of ten left Eugene and headed up the McKenzie Highway. North of Clear Lake the autumn colors around the lava beds were brilliant. I have never seen such bright red vine maple before. When we reached the trailhead on the east side of the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness it began to sprinkle lightly. As we gained elevation the rain came down harder. At Carl Lake there was a steady rainfall and strong winds. It was cold. We ate lunch under the cover of trees, but soon headed back down the trail to the parking area. Those participating in the hike were Barb Elsen, Rachele Noto Fiszman, Bob Foster, Shirley Froyd, Gladys Grancorvitz, Sharon Ritchie, Carol Stern, Suzanne Steussy, Eleanor Wilkerson and leader Dave Predeek.
