September 10, 1988
It was a fine, moderately-wars summer day as we began our hike from the parking area at Scott Lake.
We hiked northeast towards Hand Lake at the edge of the lava.
From there the Hand Lake Trail follows the lava northwest.
Just north of Scott Mountain there is a remnant of an old sign to mark the location of a
long-abandoned trail up the north side of the mountain.
The trail is steep and is crisscrossed by wind-thrown trees and grown over by young fir trees.
We looked for blaze marks on trees which are clearly visible after all these years.
We passed by several small, unnamed lakes and stopped on the top to eat lunch and enjoy the fine view.
We descended the north side past Tenas and Bensen Lakes, but did not have time for a swim.
Participants included Audrey Cummings, Janet Baker Jacobsen, Betty Macy, Suzanne Steussy
and leader Dave Predeek.
