Grizzly Peak

July 23, 1988

The Grizzly Peak 1988 hike on July 23rd took advantage of the rhody season. Around Pamelia Lake, two miles in from the trailhead, the rhododendrons were wide open and profuse. From there up to the peak, three miles, they were either in bud or in bloom. There were also many other wildflowers along the trail — smilacina, wood violets, wild ginger, bunchberry, vanilla leaf, anemones, and by the mossy waterfall a few lingering trillium. We met snow on the trail as we case to the magnificent view of Mt. Jefferson, so some of us chose to lunch there, but most of us went on to the peak, where we shared binoculars for the wider view. Enjoying the flowers, views and a snack on the deck at the Marion Forks Restaurant were Sharon Dvorak, Barb Elsen, Bob Foster, Maggie Gontrum, Mae Jackson, Robin Prentice, Lynn Sheel, Martha Welches, and co-leaders Sandra Larsen and Jan White.
