Rooster Rock

June 12, 1988

We left the “Y” parking lot just after 8:00 a.m. and drove on Highway 105 to the 42nd St. exit, then through the Mohawk and Marcola Valley into Sweet Hope, Route 20, to the Trout Creek Trailhead. We started hiking at 10:00 a.m., and most of the hikers were on top by 12:30. It was a beautiful sunny day, and we could see Iron Mountain, Cone Peak and the Three Sisters. When we started down there was a small group climbing Rooster Rock. On the way we saw blue iris, anemones and rhododendrons in bloom. Ardys said that the trail was really 6.6 miles, not 5 miles as listed in the trail book. We counted 22 logs we had to go over or under, but none of us got stuck high centering. Be were back at the trailhead by 3:15. The hikers were Barb Elsen, Bob Foster, Miki Hutchison, Norma Jones, Bobbie Kalbfleisch, Mardi Klotz, Ed Lichtenstein, and co-leaders Henrietta Richmond and Ardys Ringsdorf.
