Antarctica

February 26, 1988

An unusually large crowd at the February 26 Potluck at the Lodge enjoyed Norm Benton’s fabulous slides of his January trip to Antarctica via Argentina. He enjoyed great picture-taking conditions as be went by ship, snapping spectacular icebergs, penguin rookeries, and seal herds. Norm explained iceberg action, wildlife, winds, landing craft, living conditions, and traveling companions. Visiting government installations was included on his stops at Experanza Base at Good Hope Bay, Jubany Base on King George Island (South Shetland Islands), Deception Island, Bahia Paraiso (Paradise Bay), and Melchior Naval Base (Melchior Island).
