Mt. Hood (Southside)May 15, 1988Our party of nine left the Timberline Lodge at 2:30 a.m. We started our slow climb under many stars but no soon. Our climbing weatherman gave us a good forecast as long as we were off the mountain by 6:00 p.m. (Thanks Rich.) As we neared the hogsback we case upon many, many people including a climbing school from Portland. We quickly roped up and started up the final leg at a snail’s pace. The wind picked up at the bottom of the chute, getting stronger at the top. From the hogsback to the top it took us 1½ hours without a crevasse to cross. We reached the top at 9:00 a.m. A nice easy pace down brought us to the parking lot by noon. Climbers were Jan & Rich Anselmo, Tim Bennett, Sharon & Mitch Daletas, Jerry Crosby, Robert Mulvey, Gene Thaxton and myself, Ken Daletas. |
