Tumalo Mountain/Rosary Lakes

August 16, 1987

Under clear blue skies we headed up the trail to the long, flat summit of Tumalo Mountain. The trailhead has been changed to a new location next to Dutchman’s Flat. This new trail intersects the old one near the top. Lupine, buckwheat and paintbrush linger for our enjoyment. A short hike of 1¼ miles to the elevation of 7,775 feet rewards us with a quick way to have wonderful views of the Sisters, Broken Top and Bachelor. Leaders Jan and Rich Anselmo talked so much of the great ice cream available at Sun River that the group headed there when we finished the hike to taste for themselves. Joining us for fresh air, exercise, Oregon views and ice cream were Bob Foster, Miki Hutchison, Betty Metzler, Ethel Steussy and Eleanor Wilkerson, Jan and Rich Anselmo, leaders.

Rosary Lakes addendum. The “lost” group did not find their way to Tumalo, so paying attention to the hour and the distance decided to salvage the best of their hiking opportunity and walked to Rosary Lakes. It was a lovely day and enjoying the non-scheduled hike were Barbara Elsen, Rachele Fiszman and Linda Wells.
