Grizzly Peak

August 2, 1987

Grizzly Peak ’87 was, as usual, both beautiful and satisfying. Four Obsidians traveled in one car to the trailhead on Pamelia Road (off Hwy. 22) where we met Ralph Nafziger. The easy trail to Pamelia Lake remains in good condition in spite of heavy use, and we enjoyed the huge trees and brilliant greens. Higher up, the waterfall is nearly dry and no rhodies in bloom, although the woods are lush and healthy. A splendid view from the site of the former lookout included Hood and the Sisters, as well as a face to face with Mt. Jefferson. Hikers: Barb Elsen, Lee Hatch, Ralph Nafziger, Carol Stern and leader Emmy Dale. Also a short visit with Robert Nordahl.
