Cone Peak/Iron Mountain

June 20, 1987

Eleven hikers started the trip east toward the mountain at 8:05 a.m. The day was overcast but did not produce rain until we finished lunch on top of Iron Mountain at 1:30 p.m. Despite the overcast we could see portions of Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington and Three Fingered Jack. The wild flowers were beautiful and colorful just like last year at this same time of year, June 21. The group this year made the 6 mile trip in one hour less time than the group in ’86. This probably explained the rain prompting us off the mountain. Ingrid Hansen with four others got to enjoy the mountain a little longer since Igrid’s M.G. decided not to go on its own and had to be towed back to Eugene.

Hikers were Dan Bates, Bob Foster, Ingrid Hanson, Gladys Grancorvitz, Jim Hinman, Carrie McClish, Mary Millman, Anne Montgomery, Eileen Montgomery, Paula Vehrs, and leader Ted Briles.
