Silver Creek Falls
May 9, 1987
After a last minute flurry of additions and deletions, our numbers stabilized at an even dozen
and we hit the road in three vehicles.
Our plan to drop off one car at the South Falls had to be modified, and we continued on to the
North Falls parking lot.
Then, after unloading passengers, we ferried one car back to the South Falls lot.
Hence, it was 10:40 before we got on the short trail upstream to the Upper North Falls.
Following a quick look at that one, we doubled back and set out in earnest on the trail which
encompasses all the falls except Winter Falls.
We ate our lunch at Twin Falls and thoroughly enjoyed being in the cool canyon on that warm May day.
Indeed, we were reluctant to come out when we reached the rim of South Falls at 2:15 p.m.
Nevertheless, when we reached the lodge we discovered a splendid wildflower show in progress which
we enjoyed along with refreshments.
The show was a real bonus since it enabled us to resolve several disagreements about species
identification which had developed along the trail.
Participants in this outing were: Sharon Ritchie, Jeri Rexford, Tom Wiesenfeld, Don Sullivan,
Rex Zimmerman, and Obsidians: Karen and Paul Cohen, Paula Vehrs, Gladys Grancorvitz,
Elizabeth McMullen, Loretta Mason and leader Vernon Barkhurst.
