Four of us headed for the South Santiam and Rooster Rock at the beginning of the hot spell
(the 88° day).
Fortunately most of the 2,000-foot elevation gain in 2.1 miles was in the shade and we were rewarded
by good views from the top.
Flowers were past their prime due to the warm, dry spring but we saw quite a variety even so.
The congenial group of hikers included Sharon Ritchie, who is applying for active membership,
and Obsidians Jane Tucker, Margaret Wiese, and Catherine Jones, leader.
