Cape Perpetua Whale Watch
March 7, 1987
Can you believe clear blue, sunny, cloudless skies, shirt-sleeve temperatures, and lots of whales
for our Whale Watch two years in a row?
Believe it, friends!
Saturday, March 7, was an exact repeat of last year’s marvelous trip.
Seventeen enthusiastic folks were well rewarded for making the 7:30 a.m. rendezvous time.
Calm waters made for pleasant on-deck sightings — 26 in all according to the Captain!
One could practically count the barnacles on the backs of a couple of the whales, and those in the
bow felt the spray from one of the spouts.
We had a good lunch at Mo’s followed by a pleasant hike to the top of Cape Perpetua, then down
along the oceanfront trail to Devil’s Churn.
Coming home with sunburned faces were Alex, Chris, Derik and Marna Brockhoff, Dallas and Jack Cole,
Gary Deerhorn, Nancy Fadeley, Bo and Jan Harris, Barbara and Brent Hottle, Kenyo Ishigaki,
Betty Merton, Velma Shirk, Marion Walters and Joella Ewing (leader).
