South Jetty Dunes

Cold but nice was the weather greeting 18 hikers for the trip to the South Jetty Dunes just south of Florence. The trek began at the Goose Pasture Staging Area parking lot shared with the motorized vehicle people. Heading north the sounds of the engines disappeared. Following the upper portions of the dunes the group quickly came to view the Siuslaw River and walked along three miles. The unexpected sights of animal tracks and the white swans made a good day even better. Clam chowder at Mo’s was the reward for a hard work walk in the sand. Hikers were: Tom Cawi, Barbara Chinn, Genie Currier, Shirley Froyd, Maxine Hall, Steve Holland, Jeanie Holmes, Corrine Hunt, Mae Jackson, Ted Jozwiak, Bonnie Ledford, Harlo Perrin, Leslie Proffit, Henrietta Richmond, Ardys Ringsdorf, Linda Wells, Art Wild and leader Mary Ellen West.
