Newberry Crater-Paulina LakeFebruary 9, 1986A beautiful sunrise greeted 13 people at SEHS parking lot as we headed for the powder snow of Eastern Oregon’s Newberry Crater — the remains of Oregon’s tallest mountain until approximately 8000 years ago., The brand new nordic trail — a great group of people — frozen waterfalls — tremendous vistas of the entire Cascades and a truly gorgeous day of sunshine all helped to make the trip a success. Thanks to the help of Jane and Bea, half of the group were able to exit the crater via one route while the leader followed the other half by way of an alternate route. A truly great ski day with the following friendly participants: Dallas Cole, Audrey Cummings, Sandra Larsen, Bea Fontana, Jane Hackett, Vi Johnson, Leigh Williams, Jane Tucker, Bill Wood, Dot Leland, Anne Montgomery, Joe Lowry, and leader Gene Thaxton. |
