Champion Creek Road-Bohemia Smith FallsFebruary 2, 1986The Obsidians hoping to walk on the South Jetty dunes to enjoy the marvelous scenery and view the swans were denied once again by the wind and rain. But hopefully, three is a charm and the next schedule for the dunes will be perfect weather. Instead of the beach, the group went east to the Bohemia country and walked up the Champion Creek Road past Bohemia Smith Falls and several old mines. The Sunday morning weather was superb in the Bohemia area; the rain held off until everyone was back to their car. The spectacular creek, the moss covered rock overhangs, the millions of ferns and early wildflowers and the images of an early gold mining time made the hike a good substitute for the beach hike. Walking were Barbara Chinn, Mae Jackson, Art Wild, Harlo and Marty Perrin, Ruth McCalop, Jane Tucker, Marie Graville, Gary Marx, Miki Hutchison, Shirley Froyd, and leaders Mary Ellen West and Maxine Hall. |
