South Willamette TrailJanuary 19, 1986The good news is that the South Willamette Trail is open again and ready for hikers. The trail has been restored and cleared of debris. The logged area has been replanted and new log bridges cross several of the particularly marshy areas. The wet weather hikers picked up the trail from the Hardesty Mountain Trailhead at Highway 58. After crossing the South Willamette Trail to Crale Creek Road, the group walked up the now clear road (free from trees down) and rejoined the Hardesty Trail for a walk back to the parking lot. Lunch under the shelter of trees was brief but a pleasant reward for walking in the mist. The fog and light mist created a lovely backdrop to the intense green of the trees and moss. The many salamanders out and about joined with the six walkers for a good day on the South Willamette Trail. Hikers were Arthur Wild, Carol Houde, Maxine Hall, Dewey Porter, Mae Jackson, and leader Mary Ellen West. |
