Gold Lake

January 12, 1986

On this particular trip most of the people who had signed up on my sheet cancelled out because of poor weather conditions. However, three intrepid cross-country skiers decided against staying home and watching football on the TV and kicked off for the snow country.

Skiing down to the brie, conditions were found to be substandard; however, we skied all the way across the lake; the weather cleared; the sun came out and the day turned beautiful. We lunched for an hour at the very middle of the lake where the ice was supposed to be 18 inches thick (we hoped). At the northeast corner of the lake we had a beautiful view of Diamond Peak and Mt. Yoran. The grey jays were spoiled as usual and now they will eat right out of your hand. The clouds were picturesque and the long jet streams fun to watch. On the way out a deer was bouncing along just ahead of us but we didn’t catch sight. This turned out to be a very enjoyable ski trip in the crisp, fresh air of the Oregon mountains.

Enjoying the skiing, expecially on the lake, were Jolly Fairchild, Jane Tucker and leader Parker Riddle, and a brief MEMO: BEARS 24, RAMS zip, PATRIOTS 31 , DOLPHINS 14 and on to Super Bowl XX and a Happy New Year.
