August 17, 1986
Our day started out slightly overcast in Eugene but after getting up the McKenzie Highway,
the sky was clear and blue.
We had only one car with four hikers.
In spite of the leader scouting the trip, I made a few wrong turns.
We started from Big Lake campground with the trail following the shore of Big Lake.
We had a lot of dust on the trail, and after passing the third Patjens Lake, we had a
fairly steady ascent to our lunch stop.
We could see two of the Sisters while we ate lunch.
While we were eating, three fellow Obsidians came up the trail — Bert Ewing,
Mary Fulton and Lee Hatch.
We made a loop trip and returned to Big Lake for a cool swim.
Hikers were Obsidians Paula Vehrs, Judy Forell and leader, Sandra Larsen,
and nonmember Mary Nelson.
