Matthieu Lakes Loop

August 10, 1986

Instead of a trip report this time I would like to submit a few sentences from Ernest Hemingway’s Big Two Hearted River Part I. “He came down a hillside covered with stumps into a meadow … His trousers were soaked with the dew as he walked. After the hot day, the dew had come quickly and heavily. The ground rose, wooded and sandy, to overlook the meadow …” (Editor’s note: The trip report was several paragraphs but more than could be allowed under copyright law. Feel free to ask Obsidian Librarian to see the full report or read the Hemingway item mentioned above.)

Thanks to Charles Scribner’s Sons: The hawk is soaring and the mountains are there.

Hikers were Judy Forell, Mary Millman, Dewey Porter, Susan Roe, and leader Parker Riddle.
