Jefferson Park

August 9, 1986

The scheduled departure must have been too early for three no-shows and the previous day’s high temperatures responsible for four cancellations. Nine hikers left at 0710 for a 2½ hour drive to Whitewater trailhead. A relatively cool trip in with many spectacular views of Mt. Jefferson. Lunch on the north side of Scout Lake in the shade with a full view of the lake and swimming bathing beauties plus the mountain in the background was enjoyed by all. Some of the hikers tried swimming also and reported ideal water conditions. Departure from the lake was set for three o’clock so there was time to wander around through the park and visit Bays Lake and Russell Lake. Two hours later we were back at the car by 5 o’clock. Leaving the parking lot at the end of the logging road we counted 50 cars. On scouting the trip earlier mid-week there were only four cars et the trailhead.

This trip is a long drive and makes for a long day (we arrived home at 8 p.m.) but it is a quick (2½ hour) and easy way into Jefferson Park and can be done as a day trip. Those making the trip were H. Davis, Evelyn Everett, Erik ?, Bob Foster, Lee Howard, Mary Millman, Henrietta Richmond, Karen Seidel and leader Wayne Lill.
