Matthieu Lakes

July 27, 1986

It was a lovely, sunny, clear day at the McKenzie Pass. We all enjoyed the views of the mountains through Dee Wright Observatory’s rock windows, end then hiked toward Matthieu Lakes. Lovely North Sister beckoned us. All but one climbed the hill beyond South Matthieu Lake and were rewarded with super views of Belknap Crater, Mt. Washington, Three Fingered Jack and Mt. Jefferson to the north and North Sister’s fully revealed north icy slopes. It was windy at the top and at South Matthieu Lake so only two of us waded waist deep instead of swimming. Hiking out the upper trail we got grit views of the mountains and North Matthieu Lake below. The mosquitoes were almost nonexistent. It was such a good day we all hiked to Proxy Falls to top it off.

The nine hikers who went to Matthieu Lakes were Becky Hansen, Alys Riley, Carrie McClish, Tom Wiesenfeld, Barb Elsen, Miki Hutchison, Linda Wells, Mary Hynes, and leader Bob Foster.
