North Umpqua PaddleraftJune 21, 1986The River God gave us a sunny, clear 80° day for our fourth annual North Umpqua Paddleraft trip. We put in above Steamboat Creek and took out at Susan Creek State Park. Our guides from Oregon River Experiences (owned by Obsidian Bob Doppelt) were Jennie Sue, Richard and Nara. They expertly ushered our group, composed of a few novices and several experienced paddlerafters, through Steamboat, Bathtub, Island, Sleeper and many other unnamed rapids during our 6 hours of continuous whitewater fun, including a superb shore lunch. One unnamed guide and passenger swam briefly, but ultimately decided to ride the waves with their fellow paddlers while inside the raft. Those enjoying the social aspect of white water paddlerafting were Llew Albrecht, Jeff Beckwith, Barbara Bickmore, Lisa Clapp, Dallas and Jack Cole, Walt Davis, Vi Johnson, Ben and Joyce Phillips, Fred Schultz, Shelley Smith, Carol Stern, Joyce Strassberg, Herta Tschersich, Paula Vehrs, Leigh Williams and leader Joe Lowry. |
