Crawfish TrailMarch 22, 198610 a.m. — we leave Brice Creek. The weather is just beautiful — sky blue, sun shining, trail well maintained, trees and brush dark emerald green color. We travel up through tall timber and logged off areas. One old and one new, where the trail disappears, forcing us to hike a disguised logging road. Finding the trail again, we began to hit snow about one mile from the top. There had been no one up the trail to break up the snow, so we have to do that for ourselves. We arrive at the end of the trail where it meets Knots Trail, which goes to Mt. Adams. We turn left and hike up the nearby alpine knoll, which is on Knots Trail. We arrive at 2:30 p.m., take in a view of Fairview Peak and Bohemia Mtn. Because the snow is deep and time is late (and a lot of wind) we began to descend. It is 3 p.m. One of our hikers is from the east, so he is looking for the largest pine cone. He finds it! We arrive back at the trailhead at 5 p.m. Hikers were nonmembers Tom Cawi, Marlyn Kuins, and Dorothy Porter with member-scouting Obsidian Rebecca Hansen. |
