Green Peter Area

March 3, 1985

The trivia question for the day was “What is the Flying Scot?” The party saw the answer as we passed the “Flying Scot” logging balloon anchored near Green Peter Dam.

A good ski trip was scouted up Rocky Top road two weeks earlier, but by March 3d about half the snow had disappeared. The party of 14 in three vehicles then drove on to the end of the plowed, paved main road. The good snow for skiing soon ended so we had lunch next to Quartzville Creek. We then drove up toward Quartzville townsite where we found good snow on road 106, skied to the end of 3 log landings and returned on the rather steep logging road.

The party of 14 who enjoyed the scenic drive in search of good snow included Dallas Cole, Tim Cook, Bert, Jack and Joella Ewing, Gladys Grancorvitz, Dorothy Hayes, Sandra Larsen, Norma Lockyear, Velma Shirk, Gene Thaxton, Leigh Williams, and co-leaders Bea Fontana and Wes Prouty.
