Mt Yoran

October 27, 1985

The first look at all that snow on the mountain was disheartening to our group of hikers. But since we were at the trailhead and ready to walk some place, we agreed to try it. Within 100 yards we were in the snow but found it not too tough going so on we went. There were lots of stops to enjoy the scenery and rain our strength. After a slippery scramble to gain the ridge, we found, as hoped, that the south facing ridge was mostly snow free. The only problem then was a strong chill wind that mace some of us cling tightly to anything handy on the very narrow ridge top. Eventually everyone gained the summit to enjoy views to Mt. Hood and the straight neat lines of the ski runs nearby. As clouds began to form over the mountains suddenly, we plunged back into the snow to beat darkness to the cars.

The enthusiastic good sports were Suzanne Steussy, Alice Peterson, Bob Foster, Ted Castell, John Cecil, Lee Hatch, and leader Betty Macy.
