Lowder Mountain

September 29, 1985

An absolutely beautiful fall day greeted our group as we made the pleasant and relatively easy hike to Lowder Mountain. The fall leaves were bright, shimmering, colorful, and a pleasure to behold. We saw some of the last late blooming wildflowers. We had an extremely congenial group and enjoyed lunch on the cliff overlooking the Three Sisters and Bachelor. The high point of the trip was the sighting of 8 elk—1 bull, 4 cows and 3 calves. After 20 years in Oregon, this is only the third herd of elk the leader had seen. What a thrill! The exact location of the sighting is being protected as our group is opposed to elk hunting. What a great trip! What a super group! Those who went included Trish Hawkins, Gayle Ragsdale, and Marge and John Kocher, leader.
