Canyon Creek Meadows & Base of 3 Fingered Jack

September 8, 1985

At 8:15 a.m. on a gray morning, six hikers left Eugene and stopped in Leaburg to pick up Dave Predeek. The parking lot at Jack Lake was crowded with campers and hunters. Dorothy, in a hurry, started up the wrong trail and waited too long to turn back. So we had a “little warm-up hike” as Clarence said. Back on the right trail, we arrived at Canyon Creek for lunch and then went on to the moraine lake for a view from the ridge. This trail is in the Jefferson Wilderness Area.

The clouds on Three Fingered Jack gave us beautiful and continually changing glimpses of the rugged peaks. Although everyone was prepared for rain, only a few drizzles fell before we were in the cars on the way home. Those on the hike were Tom Ellis and Susan Roe, nonmembers, and members Ann Moore, Dave Predeek, Lois Schreiner, and leaders Dorothy and Clarence Scherer.
