Olallie Lookout

July 13, 1985

As I write this a week later in 100° heat!, I think of the crisp morning that greeted the ten Olallie Mountain hikers in the South Eugene parking lot. And to remember, we actually questioned the advisability of shorts that day!

Two more hikers were added to the ranks with a brief stop at the Leaburg Community Center and we were off again for a sunny, clear blue day in the mountains. Arriving at the lookout at varying paces, all had a leisurely lunch taking in the expansive view—north to Mt. Hood and south to Diamond Peak and beyond. Ten elected to take the side trip to the guard station and we were delighted to find Helen Smith, who may have been even more pleased to visit with her “guests” from the valley.

Enjoying the day’s hike were nonmembers Rosemarie Atencio, Eckhard Aubeolen, Pita Davidson, Anne Svarverud and members Hal Busby, Bob Foster, Helen Lynch, Gary Marx, Mary Millman, Dave Predeek, Karen Seidel and leader Lin Pierce.
